Pork Bolognese
Pork Bolognese Recipe
Ingredients:
- 500g (1lb) pork mince
- 2 bell peppers (any color), diced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 400g (14oz) tinned tomatoes
- 2.5 tbsp tomato purée
- Olive oil (for cooking)
- Salt and black pepper (to taste)
- Optional: dried herbs (such as oregano, thyme, or basil), red chili flakes for heat
Instructions:
-
Prepare the ingredients:
Dice the bell peppers, finely chop the onion, and mince the garlic. Open the tinned tomatoes and have your tomato purée ready. -
Sauté the vegetables:
Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened and fragrant. Add the bell peppers and cook for another 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally. -
Brown the pork mince:
Push the vegetables to the sides of the pan and add the pork mince to the center. Cook the mince, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and no pink remains (about 5–7 minutes). -
Combine and cook the base:
Mix the cooked vegetables and pork together in the pan. Stir in the tomato purée, ensuring everything is well coated. Cook for 1–2 minutes to enhance the tomato flavor. -
Add the tinned tomatoes:
Pour in the tinned tomatoes and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. -
Season to taste:
Add salt, black pepper, and any optional herbs or spices you like. If you prefer a hint of spice, add red chili flakes. Simmer the sauce on low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together. -
Serve:
Serve your pork Bolognese over your choice of pasta, rice, or even zucchini noodles. Top with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
Enjoy your hearty and flavorful Pork Bolognese!
